MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has relieved Ambassador Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyateh of his roles as Ambassador-at-Large for Special Duties and Special Presidential Envoy, effective June 8, 2026.

In a communication dated June 8, the Executive Mansion said the decision followed “recent events arising from public statements attributed to” Kouyateh concerning the House of Representatives. The House subsequently sent communications expressing a Vote of No Confidence in his continued service, the letter stated.

The dismissal letter, issued by President Boakai, cited the need to protect working relationships among government branches. “The success of Liberia’s national development agenda depends on constructive engagement, mutual respect, and effective collaboration among the three coordinate branches of Government,” the President wrote.

Boakai also referenced his administration’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, noting that its implementation “requires strong working relationships among national institutions in pursuit of the common good.”

Kouyateh served as Ambassador-at-Large for Special Duties and Special Presidential Envoy. The President thanked him for his service to the nation and wished him well in future endeavors.

The House of Representatives has not publicly released details of the specific statements that prompted its Vote of No Confidence. Kouyateh had not issued a public response as of press time.

The move marks the first high-profile dismissal by the Boakai administration linked directly to inter-branch tensions since the President took office.
