Monrovia — The General Auditing Commission (GAC) is moving aggressively to tighten accountability, with Auditor General Hon. P. Garswa Jackson, Sr. reporting that 61 audits were completed and published in the first half of 2026.
Speaking at the Commission’s first General Staff Meeting of the year held under the African Organization of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), Jackson said the output included 26 government audits and 35 donor-funded project audits. He noted that 60 additional audits are currently pending his review and approval, with 40 more government audits slated to be commissioned before December. The meeting serves as an internal platform for management and staff to review progress and engage stakeholders.
The Auditor General highlighted three audits that have already triggered legislative action: the Revenue Reconciliation Audit, the Roberts International Airport Road Project Audit, and the Administration Audits of Nimba and Grand Bassa Counties. On follow-up, Jackson disclosed that Phase Three covers 338 audited entities, with findings to be compiled in the third annual status report due in December 2026. He also confirmed that the Annual Consolidated Financial Statement Audit of Government will be released in August, in compliance with the Public Financial Management Law.
On the administrative front, Jackson announced the launch and immediate implementation of the GAC’s new Strategic Plan 2026–2030. The plan is anchored on five goals: Transform Audit Delivery, Pursue Financial Independence, Enhance Operational Independence, Leverage Technology and Digital Transformation, and Improve Culture and People. In a move to boost fieldwork, he also confirmed the purchase of 16 pickups dedicated solely to audit operations across the country.
Staff performance was also in focus. Several employees received certificates for professional and academic milestones, including Sumo Mulbah and Melvin Zewey for passing the ACCA examinations, a globally recognized accounting designation. Senior management in attendance included Deputy Auditor General for Administration Hon. Foday G. Kiazolu and Deputy Auditor General for State-Owned Enterprises and Specialized Audits Hon. G. Cecil Dole.
In an Independence Day gesture, Jackson and the management team distributed bags of rice and gallons of cooking oil to staff. With more audits pending and a new strategic roadmap now active, the GAC signaled it intends to deepen oversight and push for greater financial discipline in government through 2026 and beyond.
