Wilfred J.S. Bangura, II has officially resigned from his position as Secretary General of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), as well as from party membership, effective immediately. In a letter addressed to National Chairman James M.V. Yougie, Bangura cited the need to “pursue proper alignment with political values” as the reason for his departure.

In his resignation letter, Bangura expressed gratitude for the relationships forged during his tenure with the party, describing the experience of building the CMC from its foundation as meaningful. “There is no scintilla of doubt that the many relations forged over the period while working together to lay down the foundation of the CMC, with a host of such wonderful people that I had the privilege to meet, will persist,” he wrote.

Bangura also extended his best wishes to the party, urging that the CMC’s agenda for a “more prosperous, equitable and just society” remain steadfast despite his exit.

This resignation follows a previous departure from the party by another founding member, Grace Renelle Guar, who served as Diaspora Chair for the USA and Canada and resigned in October 2025. Guar’s departure, like Bangura’s, reflected internal differences and personal alignment with political values, raising questions about leadership stability within the emerging party.

The CMC, which positions itself as a reform-driven movement advocating for equitable governance, now faces the task of maintaining momentum and unity following the resignation of two prominent founding members.

Bangura’s departure marks a significant moment in the party’s organizational history, as the Secretary General role has been central to coordinating party operations and driving policy outreach.

While the release focuses on Bangura’s personal reasons for leaving, it implicitly raises questions about whether the party’s internal structure and political direction have contributed to these leadership exits.

Party observers note that the resignations of founding members can influence public perception, particularly as CMC seeks to strengthen its presence nationally and among the Liberian diaspora.

Bangura concluded his letter with a message of hope for the party’s future, expressing confidence that the CMC will continue pursuing its mission despite the recent leadership changes.
