The Liberia National Police has charged a 26-year-old woman, Miss Amie T. Dean, for allegedly making a false kidnapping report, in what authorities describe as a deliberate act intended to mislead law enforcement.
According to a press release issued on April 15, 2026, Miss Dean, a resident of Paynesville City, has been charged with “False Statement” and “False Report to Law Enforcement Official,” in violation of Chapters 12.31 and 12.33 of the Revised Penal Code of the Republic of Liberia. Police say she is currently awaiting trial.
The case stems from an incident earlier this month when Miss Dean was reported missing on April 2, 2026. Her disappearance raised concerns among family members and the public until she resurfaced two days later, on April 4, claiming she had been abducted by unknown individuals traveling in an unidentified vehicle.
However, during subsequent police questioning, investigators say Miss Dean admitted that the alleged kidnapping never occurred. Authorities disclosed that she confessed to fabricating the story and acknowledged that her claims were misleading. She reportedly pleaded for mercy following the admission.
Police officials emphasized that false reports of this nature place unnecessary strain on limited security resources, diverting attention from genuine emergencies and potentially endangering lives. The LNP has therefore reiterated its warning to the public against making fraudulent claims.
The police statement, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sam K. Collins, Chief of Press and Public Affairs, underscores the institution’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability for actions that undermine public trust in the security sector.
Miss Dean is expected to appear in court as legal proceedings move forward.
