Congo Town, Monrovia – United States Sanctioned and Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change, Jefferson Koijee has accused the Joseph Nyuma Boakai administration of targeting political actors.
the Former Mayor of Monrovia argues that these actions represent a troubling pattern of political harassment and state violence, highlighting the “repeated infiltration of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters by the police as a scenario.
These operations according to him, have occurred multiple times within a single month, provoking outrage among party supporters and the general public alike.
He said during these police actions, ordinary Liberians have reportedly lost property, and some have sustained serious injuries, maintaining that such aggressive tactics are not only unnecessary but also detrimental to public trust in law enforcement.
Mr. Koijee in a recent news conference accused the Boakai’s regime of weaponizing the judiciary against the CDC and other political stakeholders, nothing that the legal system is increasingly being used for political maneuvering, particularly in the ongoing eviction efforts concerning the property occupied by the CDC.
“The manipulation of the courts to target the CDC is viewed as counterproductive, potentially sowing the seeds of chaos in an already volatile political landscape.” he stated. The opposition called on international partners to hold the government accountable for these actions. despite not proofing evidences of their claims.
One particular issue is the administration’s alleged efforts to undermine the legal process regarding the eviction of the CDC from its national headquarters. Koijee further contended that the alleged move is a deceptive tactic to mislead the international community about the government’s intentions.
The Unity Party, according to the former mayor, came to power promising to rescue Liberia from its historical challenges, is now accused of poor governance characterized by corruption, political violence, and budget manipulation.
