Totota Gas Tanker Explosion Victim, Inspector Jabateh, off to India for Advanced Medical Attention

Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced the departure of its Commander of the Totota Police Detail Morhafee M. Jabateh to India for adequate medical attention following an injury sustained from the Totota tanker explosion that left over eighty persons dead in December of 2023.

In a press release dated July 15, 2024, LNP Spokesperson said the decision come after Inspector Jabateh’s brave response to a gas tanker accident in Totota, Bong County, on December 26, 2023, which tragically resulted in the death of several persons and severe injuries to others.

During the explosion, Inspector Jabateh who was on the seen sustained serious burn injuries, prompting the LNP to prioritize his well-being.

In a brief statement at the Roberts International Airport, Officer Jabateh expressed gratitude to the LNP administration and leadership, emphasizing that their intervention served as a motivating force during his challenging recovery.
“Let this intervention be a motivation to other junior officers,” Inspector Jabateh said.
Accompanied by his caretaker, Inspector Jabateh departed Liberia for India yesterday July 15, 2024 afternoon upon being discharged from the 14th Military Hospital in Margibi County where he has been receiving medical treatment. He is scheduled to undergo plastic surgery during his stay in India.
