Representative Cole Hooks for Persistent Non-Support in Child Welfare Case

By Alphanso G. Kalama;

Monrovia, Liberia – The Monrovia City Magisterial Court has issued a writ of arrest against Bong County District three Marvin Cole, for alleged persistent non-support of his 11-year-old daughter, Rebecca Cole. The charge, outlined in the court document MONGMO/HC/15/2024, is a violation of Section 16.5 of the New Penal Law of Liberia.

The case was brought to court by Clara Asibu, who is seeking justice on behalf of her minor daughter, Rebecca. Asibu claims that since the pregnancy and birth of Rebecca, Representative Cole has failed to provide any financial or material support for his child. This includes neglecting to provide food, shelter, clothing, or any other necessary assistance, placing undue hardship on the mother and child.

The complaint asserts that Cole’s actions, described as “criminal, illegal, and unconstitutional,” have left the child in dire need of basic necessities. Asibu’s legal action seeks to hold him accountable for his failure to support his daughter, a responsibility he allegedly neglected without any justifiable reason.

The court order, signed by Magistrate L. Ben Barco and accompanied by the seal of the court, now directs Captain Charles Bloyuefloh or his deputy to arrest Representative Marvin Cole and bring him before the Monrovia City Court to face charges. This legal action underscores the importance of upholding the rights of children and the responsibilities of parents under Liberian law.

The writ of arrest, issued on November 26, 2024, serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by the judicial system to address child welfare issues and ensure that parents meet their obligations to their children.

The case continues to develop, and the Monrovia City Court will provide further updates as the legal proceedings unfold.
