Monrovia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has broken his silence on the deepening leadership crisis in the House of Representatives, declaring that “Liberia will not be held hostage by narrow interests or acts of lawlessness.”

Speaking Thursday following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legislative impasse, Boakai acknowledged the Court’s decision but stressed that the dispute in the House remains unresolved. He revealed that his administration has launched nationwide consultations with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to forge a constitutional way forward.

“The work of governance will continue,” Boakai asserted. “Nothing will distract us from our duty to serve the Liberian people.”

While reaffirming respect for the separation of powers, the President underscored his government’s intent to move forward with “a quorum that will ensure the full functioning of our government,” referencing constitutional provisions defining legislative quorum.

Boakai also condemned recent acts of arson and vandalism at the Capitol Building and other government properties, warning that those responsible “will face the full force of the law.”

Calling for calm and unity, he urged elected officials and citizens alike to prioritize national interest over personal or partisan ambition. “Liberia is bigger than any one person, party, or position,” Boakai said.

As efforts to resolve the crisis continue, the President assured the public that governance remains on track and the country’s democratic principles will be protected.
