Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) has announced an immediate suspension of all beauty pageants, international cultural representations, and the issuance of permits to pageant organizers across the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, the LNTA said no individual will be allowed to represent Liberia as a queen or titleholder on any national or international platform without prior written approval from the Authority and full compliance with internationally recognized standards governing pageantry and cultural representation.
The suspension also affects all institutions and organizations involved in organizing pageants, as the Authority has placed a temporary halt on permit issuance. According to the LNTA, the suspension will remain in effect until a standardized approval and compliance framework is developed and enforced.
The Authority explained that the decision is intended to protect Liberia’s national image, ensure credibility, and align all representations of the country with global best practices. It emphasized that future approvals will depend on strict compliance with governance requirements, transparent selection processes, participant welfare safeguards, ethical conduct, brand alignment, and adherence to international protocols.
“The directive is part of our broader responsibility to promote Liberia responsibly and ensure that all national and international representations reflect the country’s values and global standards,” the LNTA noted.
The Tourism Authority assured stakeholders that detailed guidelines outlining approval requirements and compliance procedures will be published in due course. In the meantime, organizers, promoters, and affiliated entities have been urged to take note of the directive and comply fully.
