LNP Reports Alarming Road Traffic Accident Statistics for September 2024

Monrovia, Liberia — The Public Safety Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has released troubling statistics revealing a total of 157 road traffic accidents in September 2024, resulting in 23 fatalities. This grim report highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures across the country.

Among the deceased, 20 were male and 3 female, underscoring a concerning trend in road safety. The report also details injuries sustained in these incidents, with 144 individuals reporting bodily harm—133 males and 11 females. Notably, the injured comprised 80 operators, 52 occupants, and 12 pedestrians, emphasizing the widespread impact of traffic accidents on all road users.

In total, 249 vehicles were implicated in these accidents, with 45 suffering severe damage. The LNP has initiated legal action in six cases, while 61 cases have been withdrawn and 90 remain pending further investigation.

In light of these alarming figures, the LNP is urging all road users to adhere strictly to the Vehicle and Traffic laws of Liberia. As road safety continues to be a pressing issue, authorities are calling for increased vigilance and responsibility among drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.
