Monrovia – Liberia has scored 28 out of 100 on the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), ranking 136th out of 182 countries assessed worldwide.

The CPI, which evaluates perceived levels of public sector corruption across the globe, remains the leading international indicator of government transparency and accountability. This year’s report shows Liberia recorded a marginal increase of one point compared to its previous score.

Despite the slight improvement, Liberia’s position at 136 highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within the public sector. The index measures perceptions of corruption among public officials and institutions, with scores ranging from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

Governance advocates say while the one-point increase signals modest progress, stronger reforms, enforcement mechanisms, and institutional accountability are necessary to significantly improve the country’s standing in future assessments.

The 2025 CPI assessed 182 countries, providing a comparative outlook on how governments are addressing corruption and promoting integrity in public administration.
