Monrovia — The Law Reform Commission (LRC) on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, chaired a high-level consultation at its headquarters in Monrovia as part of preparations for the validation of Liberia’s proposed National Electoral Law Reform.
The meeting, chaired by LRC Chairperson Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, brought together National Elections Commission (NEC) Commissioners Boakai A. Dukuly and Cllr. Earnestine Morgan Awar, UNDP/LESP Chief Technical Advisor Katherine Green and her team, and visiting UN Senior Electoral Affairs Officer Maarten Halff.
Cllr. Varmah said the reform builds on consultations supported by UNDP Liberia, the European Union, civil society organizations and the Office of the President. He disclosed that the President has expressed concern about the pace of the reform and has instructed the LRC to conclude the process well ahead of the 2029 General Elections.

The reform focuses on key areas including voter registration, campaign financing, electoral dispute resolution, and women’s representation/quota in the National Legislature.
According to the LRC, significant progress has been made, with the national validation exercise expected before the end of 2026 to harmonize inputs from state institutions, political actors, civil society and international partners.
