Internal Affairs Minister Nyumalin Dissolves Traditional Council; Chief Zanzan Karwor, others Relieved

Monrovia, Liberia – Embattled Chief Zanzan Karwor and a group of his supporters are standing firm in their refusal to be removed from their positions by Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin.

Chief Zanzar Kawor have being serving as head of the National Traditional council of Liberia for more than 17 years since the administration of former President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson prior to his removal by Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin.

Reacting to their removal by the Government of Liberia, the spokesperson of the Traditional council of Liberia, Elder Jonathan CEE disclosed that the Kawar’s Leadership will resist their removal by the Government.

“Our tenures has not ended we will continue to serve in our various positions per the law that governor the Council the Spoke person of the Traditional council added”.

However, Chief Karwor and his loyal followers have openly defied the minister’s orders, declaring their allegiance to the embattled leader. In a statement released to the press, Chief Karwor accused Minister Nyumalin of political vendetta and insisted that he would not be forced out of office without due process.

The standoff between Chief Karwor and Minister Nyumalin has sparked public debates, with some citing the Local Government Act of 2018 as the legal instrument backing the minister’s action.

Despite the growing unrest, Minister Nyumalin has remained steadfast in his determination to remove Chief Karwor from his position. In a press conference, the minister emphasized that no one is above the law and that Chief Karwor must be held accountable for his actions.

Officials are calling for calm and urging both sides to engage in dialogue to find a peaceful resolution to the standoff.

The fate of Chief Zanzan Karwor remains uncertain as the standoff with Minister Nyumalin shows no signs of easing.

According to reports, In accordance with the local government Act, Chiefs and Elders representing their respective counties will head to the polls to elect new core of officers in the soonest.
