Monrovia – Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine K. Ngafuan has submitted the Draft National Budget for Fiscal Year 2027 to the House of Representatives.
The budget, in the amount of US$1,538,916,274, was submitted Friday November 6, 2026 to House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. The submission took place in the Speaker’s Office at the Capitol Hill.
In a Facebook post following the submission, Minister Ngafuan commended his team at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning for what he described as long and arduous work, noting that for weeks the team had no weekends.
He also extended appreciation to heads and staff of other spending entities and thanked President Boakai for his visionary leadership and guidance.
The 2027 draft represents the largest budget in Liberia’s history and continues a sharp upward trend over the last three years.
In FY2024, under the Weah administration, the national budget stood at US$782 million. It rose to US$880.6 million in FY2025 after passage by the Legislature. 17eb
The Boakai administration crossed the historic one-billion-dollar threshold for the first time in FY2026, submitting a draft budget of US$1.211 billion – a 37.5 percent increase over FY2025. The approved FY2026 budget later totaled about US$1.25 billion, up 41.9 percent from the previous year. b979
The growth has been driven by improved domestic revenue collection, which rose from about US$699 million in 2024 to US$848 million in 2025, and a one-time US$200 million signature bonus from ArcelorMittal Liberia included in the 2026 envelope.
The new US$1.53 billion proposal for 2027 would mark another 27 percent jump from the 2026 draft, reflecting government’s push to align spending with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
