‎Boakai Heads to Japan for Landmark Investment and Development Summit

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., will on Saturday, August 16, 2025, embark on a high-profile diplomatic and economic mission to Japan, where he will lead a powerful Liberian delegation to the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9) in Yokohama and the prestigious Expo 2025 in Osaka.

‎The weeklong visit, running from August 16 to 23, is poised to strengthen Liberia’s international standing, deepen development partnerships, and attract significant investment opportunities.

‎TICAD, co-organized by the Government of Japan, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the African Union Commission, is regarded as one of the most influential global platforms for African development policy. The forum draws heads of state, global financiers, and international development leaders for high-level dialogue on trade, infrastructure, industrialization, and sustainable growth.

‎At Expo 2025, President Boakai will use the global stage to spotlight Liberia’s national development vision, promote trade and tourism, and engage in strategic talks with potential bilateral and multilateral partners.

‎The Liberian leader will be flanked by an influential team of cabinet ministers, lawmakers, diplomats, and private sector leaders, underscoring the mission’s economic and political weight. Among them are Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Commerce Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, Mines and Energy Minister Wilmot J.M. Paye, Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, and Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto.

‎Other key figures include Gender Minister Gbeme Horace Kollie, Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, Representative Nehker E. Gaye, National Investment Commission Chairman Jeff B. Blibo, National Port Authority Managing Director Sekou A.M. Dukuly, and Presidential Special Envoys Mohammed Maladho Bah and Christopher Hayes Onanuga. Liberia’s Ambassador to Japan, Edward Wade Appleton, Jr., will also play a central role in the engagements.

‎The President’s entourage will additionally comprise senior economic advisors, protocol staff, security personnel, and a communications team to ensure robust logistical and media coverage.

‎In President Boakai’s absence, Justice Minister Cllr. Natu Oswald Tweh, Sr., will preside over Cabinet meetings in consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and the President via telephone.

‎The Executive Mansion says Liberia’s participation in TICAD-9 and Expo 2025 is expected to solidify strategic alliances, open new investment channels, and position the country as a competitive player in global trade and development. The delegation will return to Monrovia immediately after the week’s engagements.
