Senator Moye Slams Stanton Witherspoon, Public Condemns Serial Defamation

By: The People News Online

Monrovia — Senator Prince K. Moye, Sr. has launched a scathing rebuttal against Stanton A. Witherspoon and his Spoontalk broadcast team, describing their March 3, 2026 allegations as “malicious, malevolent, and utterly disgraceful.” Witherspoon accused the senator of exploiting his position as Chairman of the Senate Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget Committee to “milk the country” for personal gain—a claim Moye’s office called a reckless fabrication.

The press release, issued by Moye’s office, detailed the senator’s lifelong record of lawful entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and hard work, sharply contradicting Witherspoon’s assertions. It accused the broadcaster of total ignorance about Moye’s career and deliberate attempts to tarnish his reputation.

Senator Moye’s rise, the release emphasized, was built on resilience, discipline, and industriousness. At 17, he constructed his first residential property; by 19, he was engaged in legitimate cross-border trade across Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria; and at 20, he built a second property now leased to the Civil Service Agency.

Beyond real estate, Moye invested heavily in agriculture, establishing one of Bong County’s largest palm farms. Roughly half of his current assets were acquired long before his entry into politics in 2011, making any suggestion that he enriched himself through public office not only false but contemptibly slanderous.

Since entering public service, Moye has been recognized for fiscal discipline, transparent budgetary oversight, and a commitment to public service rather than personal enrichment. His repeated electoral victories in Bong County, the release noted, reflect the trust and confidence of his constituents.

The Spoontalk broadcast further claimed that Moye engineered the appointment of deputy ministers—an assertion the press release described as baseless, reckless, and defamatory. Under the Liberian Constitution, such appointments are solely the prerogative of the President, with public records confirming that Moye has no authority over executive branch appointments.

Moye’s office also criticized *Spoontalk* for amplifying unverified social media attacks, asserting that the alignment between the broadcast and online innuendo indicated deliberate narrative manipulation rather than independent fact-finding.

Meanwhile, public observers reacted sharply, noting that Witherspoon has a documented history of spreading falsehoods against high-profile figures. Social media commentators reminded the public that he previously targeted Special Presidential Envoy on Tourism, Ambassador Christopher Hayes Onanuga, falsely accusing him of squandering funds intended for the Liberia Football Association Awards—claims he could never substantiate.

“Stanton Witherspoon is a serial defamer,” said one civil society leader. “He should be far removed from discussions on integrity, given his US criminal conviction and repeated pattern of baseless attacks on public officials.”

Others emphasized the danger of such reckless commentary, warning that broadcasters who weaponize misinformation against respected leaders threaten public trust and civic stability. “If people like Stanton were deciding who leads this country, Liberia would be in chaos,” one observer commented.

The press release reiterated that Moye’s positive impact in Bong County and nationally is well-documented, citing community records, public documentation, and extensive media reporting. His investments in agriculture, infrastructure, and job creation are tangible proof of his commitment to national development.

It also served as a formal warning to Witherspoon and his associates to cease repeating politically motivated falsehoods and to issue immediate corrections. Failure to do so, the statement warned, would lead to accountability through lawful channels.

Moye’s office underscored that media freedom carries responsibility. “Spoontalk and the Spoon Network must adhere to standards of verification, fairness, and accountability,” the release said. “Falsehoods thinly veiled as commentary cannot and will not erase a lifetime of lawful enterprise and public service.”

The senator reaffirmed his dedication to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development, assuring Liberians that baseless attacks will not distract him from serving his constituents.

In the wake of the broadcast, public sentiment has been overwhelmingly supportive of Moye, with widespread condemnation of Stanton Witherspoon’s repeated defamation. Citizens, civic leaders, and social media commentators alike have called on Witherspoon to step away from public commentary and allow verified facts to guide discourse in Liberia.
