Addis Ababa / Abuja — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has strongly condemned a deadly terrorist attack that left at least 162 civilians dead in Woro village, Kwara State, Nigeria.

According to the African Union, the attack occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, and targeted innocent residents, triggering widespread shock and grief across the continent. The AU Commission Chair said he received the news with profound dismay, describing the incident as a brutal assault on human dignity and regional stability.

Youssouf denounced the violence as “heinous and barbaric,” stressing that such acts represent a serious violation of human rights and pose a direct threat to peace and security. He reaffirmed the African Union’s long-standing position of zero tolerance toward terrorism and violent extremism in all forms.

The AU Commission Chair extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed sympathy with the people of Nigeria, particularly those in Kwara State who were directly affected by the attack. He also conveyed the African Union’s full solidarity with the Government of Nigeria and local authorities as they confront the aftermath of the tragedy.

Reiterating the continental body’s commitment, Youssouf assured that the African Union will continue to support Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen peace, security, and stability across its territory. He emphasized the importance of collective action and sustained cooperation in addressing terrorism and safeguarding civilian populations.
