KONIA, LOFA COUNTY – On Friday, August 15, 2025, the Revival Church in Konia Town was filled with tears and prayers. Men, women, and children knelt on the floor, crying to God to expose those behind the secret killings and disappearances in their community.
The two-day fasting and prayer service was led by the Zeyeama Clan Union of Churches. More than 150 people from over 10 churches took part. The program was held because of fear and pain caused by several mysterious deaths and missing people in the district especially in the Zeyeama Clan.
Rev. Gbaguyea M. Gbogee, President of the Zeyeama Union of Churches, told reporters that the clan has been declared a “dangerous zone” due to the recurring mysterious deaths and disappearances. He explained that while the church will soon petition the government for action, they first sought divine intervention.
“We went on our knees to seek the face of God for wisdom and for Him to expose those behind these acts. Our people are living in fear, and we cannot continue like this,” Rev. Gbogee said.
The head of the Union of Churches in Zorzor, Rev. David Zarwu, who served as guest preacher during the event, delivered a sermon on the theme “Be Your Brother’s Keeper.” He lamented that citizens have been killed “like chicken” and called on community members to stand together and report wrongdoing.
“The church has risen up in anger to get rid of this situation. We must be our brother’s keeper. When you see something wrong, report it,” Rev. Zarwu urged.
For more than 15 years, Zorzor District has faced strange killings and disappearances. At least 10 major cases have been reported, but most remain unsolved.
In 2010, the body of Korpo Kamara was found near a mosque in Konia. Parts of her body were missing, but no one was arrested.
In 2015, the death of Sianneh Gayflor in Zorzor Town caused protests and a curfew. No results came from the investigation.
In 2018, student Krubo Gibson was killed on a farm in Zalemia/Fassabu. The killer was caught and sentenced to life in prison; the only case with justice.
In 2020, several women died mysteriously in Fissebu, but no report was made public.
In 2022, hunter Kolubah Bogie Tarnue went missing and was later found dead. Parts of his body were said to be removed. No one was punished.
In 2025, an unknown body was found on the Fissebu highway in April. A month later, a two-year-old boy went missing in Konia and was never found.
These cases have left families with no answers and a community living in fear.
Many people believe these deaths are connected to ritual activities. Others blame weak investigations and government silence.
At the prayer service in Konia, the community made their message clear: they want both God’s help since the government is taking time to investigate.
“We are praying, we want God to help us revail everything to us”, one member said, “We cannot continue to live in fear.”
For now, the people of Zorzor District especially Zeyeama Clan keep praying, hoping that one day, the truth will come out and justice will be served.
