‎Morlu’s STAND Sets December 17 for Another Protest

Congo Town, Monrovia – Liberia’s protest scene is bracing for another showdown as the Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND) and its partners have announced a December 17, 2025 protest under the banner “Boakai Must Lead or Leave.”

‎The move follows the July 17 “Enough is Enough” protest, when thousands marched through central Monrovia to demand action on corruption, economic hardship, and human rights violations. That demonstration ended with the reading of a 13-count petition to the presidency but organizers say President Joseph Boakai’s refusal to address the demands has forced them back to the streets.

“This time, we are not just marching. We are going directly to the Executive Mansion, the property of the people,” said coalition chairman Mulbah K. Morlu. “No security force will intimidate citizens who are demanding accountability.

The announcement came shortly after the release of the U.S. State Department’s 2024 Human Rights Report, which accused Liberia of failing to make progress under Boakai’s leadership. Protest organizers argue the report vindicates their claims of abuse, corruption, and waste pointing to what they call “lavish foreign trips” at a time when hospitals and schools are struggling.

Unlike the July protest, which was dispersed with heavy police presence and left citizens frustrated, the December action is being billed as “Phase II of nonviolent resistance.” To build momentum, STAND has created a 15-member Citizens Engagement Board to mobilize support across the counties, consulting student groups, civil society, religious leaders, and community voices.

Organizers insist the movement will remain peaceful but warn that it will also be disruptive enough to pressure the government into action.

‎“The July protest sent a message, but the government ignored it,” Morlu declared. “December 17 will make it clear Boakai must either lead with integrity or step aside.”
