Gbarnga, Bong Co. – Bong County has officially joined the Central Bank of Liberia’s (CBL) nationwide Financial Education (FinEd) campaign, coupled with the promotion of the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), a groundbreaking platform for seamless cross-border transactions among African nations.
The three-day launch, climaxing at the Administrative Building in Gbarnga, drew county officials, students, women and youth leaders, businesspeople, and religious figures. The vibrant event blended cultural performances, interactive lectures, and simplified lessons to make complex financial concepts accessible to more than 400 participants.
Thirteen newly trained community members received certificates after a two-day workshop, marking the start of their mission to spread financial knowledge across Bong County. From budgeting and saving to wise investing, these trainers will lead grassroots efforts to help residents make informed money decisions.
Launching the campaign, Maraline Tokpa Jawo, HR Manager in the Superintendent’s office, called the initiative a “blessing” and challenged trainers to reach every district. “Education is power – let’s use it,” she urged.
CBL’s Communications Director, Cllr. P. Alphonsus Zeon, stressed community involvement, reminding residents that “these are your own children who have been trained to equip you with financial education.”
Trainers pledged to bring sessions to churches, farms, schools, and marketplaces, with Liberia’s Arts and Culture Ambassador, Kerkura Kamara, rallying grassroots support through cultural performances and community mobilization.
Leaders from women’s groups, savings associations, the motorcyclist union, and youth representatives endorsed the campaign. Many pledged to integrate financial lessons into their activities, with calls for prioritizing rural women and schools.
Beyond teaching money management, the campaign showcased PAPSS, enabling instant, secure payments across African countries in local currencies offering rural entrepreneurs better access to regional markets without costly delays.
The Bong County launch follows earlier rollouts in Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Nimba counties, advancing the CBL’s goal of nationwide financial inclusion. By pairing education with modern payment tools like PAPSS, Liberia moves closer to a future where citizens are both financially savvy and globally connected.
