Monrovia, Liberia — Musa Hassan Bility, the District #7 Representative for Nimba County, has officially resigned from the opposition Liberty Party (LP) and stepped down as its National Chairman. Bility’s announcement was made in a heartfelt letter addressed to the LP National Executive Committee.

In his resignation letter, Bility reflected on his challenging yet rewarding three-and-a-half-year tenure leading the LP, highlighting key achievements such as amendments to the party’s constitution that fostered inclusive decision-making. He also acknowledged the difficulties faced during the recent 2023 Presidential and General Elections, particularly regarding the party’s support for opposition candidate Alexander Cummings.

Bility expressed concerns about the party’s current direction amid ongoing reconciliation efforts, indicating that proposed concessions contradicted his vision for the future of the LP. “I cannot, in good conscience, endorse the new direction that is being proposed,” he stated, emphasizing his belief in the importance of maintaining the party’s core values.

The resignation signals a pivotal moment for the Liberty Party as it navigates internal challenges and seeks to redefine its strategy. Bility, who affirmed his commitment to serving as the representative for Nimba County, indicated that he would pursue his political goals through alternative channels, rather than aligning with any existing political parties.

The LP is now faced with the task of regrouping after this loss, as Bility extends his best wishes to the party and its members in their future endeavors. This resignation marks a crucial turning point in Liberia’s political landscape as the country approaches the next electoral cycle.
