Capitol Hill, Monrovia –The House of Representatives has embarked on a decisive action to create additional three new townships in Electoral District #2, Lofa County, in response to pressing political and socio-economic needs.

This legislative initiative aims to enhance local governance and improve living standards across the region.

The proposed laws—“An Act Creating the Township of Kamatahun,” “An Act to Create Massambolahun Township within Wanhassa Administrative District,” and “An Act to Create Lenbagba Township within Tengia Administrative District”—are designed to streamline administration and address the region’s growing needs. On September 16, the House unanimously endorsed a motion to have these bills reviewed by a Joint Committee within a week.

The review follows a proposal from Rep. Julie F. Wiah, who stressed the importance of these bills for job creation and resource allocation. “These Acts are vital for effective governance and will bring significant benefits to our communities,” Rep. Wiah emphasized in her communication to the House.

Massambolahun, with a population of approximately 7,200 and spanning over 4,000 square kilometers, faces significant developmental challenges. The proposed townships—Kamatahun and Lenbagba—are designed with clearly defined boundaries to address these challenges and improve administrative efficiency.

Kamatahun and Lenbagba will each cover eight square miles, with boundaries defined by neighboring areas. Each township will be overseen by a Commissioner appointed by the President, along with a local team of elected officials, including a clerk, a treasurer, and road overseers.

In addition to these bills, the House is also considering legislation to establish five new townships in Electoral District #3, further reflecting its commitment to improving local governance and infrastructure across Lofa County.
