Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) has announced developments in the country’s aviation sector, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing Liberia’s connectivity and economic prospects.
The LCAA is finalizing the necessary requirements with Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline, to initiate operations in Liberia by November 2024. This partnership is set to improve Liberia’s global connectivity, with Ethiopian Airlines planning to offer three weekly flights connecting Addis Ababa, Monrovia, and Conakry.
The new service promises to provide Liberian passengers with reliable and convenient transportation options, thereby fostering economic growth and enhancing international ties.
Mr. Julius D. Dennis, Jr., Director General of the LCAA, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting the potential benefits of this partnership for Liberia. “The introduction of Ethiopian Airlines’ services will not only boost our connectivity but also support the overall development of our aviation sector,” Dennis stated.
In addition to this development, the LCAA has also revealed that Air Sierra Leone Limited has shown interest in commencing operations to Liberia. Ongoing discussions are focused on ensuring that Air Sierra Leone Limited meets all regulatory and operational standards required by Liberian aviation authorities.
The potential new route is expected to further strengthen travel and trade links between Liberia and Sierra Leone, aligning with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST agenda to promote commerce, trade, and tourism.
The LCAA remains dedicated to fostering a competitive and efficient aviation environment in Liberia and is eager to see these new partnerships come to fruition.
“We are excited about the opportunities these new services represent for Liberia,” said Mr. Dennis. “They will enhance our connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate trade.”
