Monrovia, Liberia — In a decisive move, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has suspended the bidding process for the sale of a stockpile of iron ore near the port of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. The announcement was made by Internal Affairs Minister Honorable Francis Sakila Nyumalin, Sr. earlier Tuesday.

The decision follows an advertisement published by the Grand Bassa County Administration on August 29, 2024, which sought bids for the sale of iron ore left behind by the now-defunct LAMCO J.V. The company had operated in the region prior to the Liberian Civil War.

Despite their relying on Public Procurement & Concession Acts (PPCA), the Internal affairs Minister Nyumalin has officially notified Grand Bassa County Superintendent Madam Julia Bono of the suspension. The minister’s directive is clear: the bidding process will remain on hold until further notice.

According to the Minister, This action reflects the government’s commitment to overseeing and regulating resource management in Liberia, ensuring that such processes adhere to national standards and policies. Further updates on the matter will be provided as the situation develops.
