President Boakai Suspends The Board of Commissioners of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority

Executive Mansion– Just day after Supreme Court rule against unlawful appointment at LTA and other tenure Positions, Liberia’s president Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has suspended, effective immediately, the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority, Madam Edwina C. Zackpah, Mr. Israel Akinsanya, Mr. Zotawon D. Titus, Mr. James Gbarwea, and Mr. Osborne K. Diggs, in response to allegations of dubious financial transactions and other misconduct at the Authority.

In order to look into the claims made at the Authority, the President has asked the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct a thorough audit of the LTA. He asked the suspended officials to assist the GAC in conducting the probe to the fullest extent possible. The Leader of Liberia expressed optimism that the probe would uncover any financial malfeasance and assist in formulating remedies to avert similar incidents in the future.

The LTA is a vital organization tasked with overseeing the nation’s telecommunications industry, and in fulfilling its purpose, the organization must maintain the highest standards of accountability and honesty. The President’s trust in his Administration’s ability to make sure the LTA works in the greatest interests of the Liberian people is evident in the suspension of the Chairperson and Commissioners. In fulfilling their responsibilities to the Liberian people, public servants are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty and accountability, as stressed by the President, who has highlighted that the Government is dedicated to encouraging transparency and accountability in all sectors.
