Liberia: Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh Frowns at Culture of Impunity.

MONROVIA–The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia Her honor Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, has frowned at Liberians for promoting what she considered as “domino effect of Impunity” across the country, leading to disrespect for the rule of law.

Madam Yuoh serving as a guest for the Liberia National Bar Association 2024 assembly expressed that the disregard for the adherence of the rule of law is on the increase, citing the lack of will-power to prosecute violators of the law as a primary factor.

“our society is intrinsically or empirically so tightly that it’s difficult for each of us to hold and to have this will-power to punish or to prosecute violators of the law” she stated.

She referenced the recent land dispute matter in the Catholic community, Congo Town as an example of Impunity, where the interference of some individuals made it difficult to enforce judgement.

“No amount of influence should compell a member of our society to go and stand up to the enforcement of a court judgement.” she cautioned.

Despite the impudence from the society, the Chief Justice vows to enforce the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the head of the Liberia supreme court bench furthered that the domino effect of Impunity cut across the entire society, including judges who reluctantly compromised crimes within their circles.
