Liberia: CEMESP Climaxes Two Day TIPs Refresher Training for 25 Liberian Journalists

Ganta, Nimba County–As part of the USAID Media Activities, The Center for Media Studies and Peace-Building (CEMESP) in collective effort with Internews Liberia and funding from USAID has concluded two days training for at least 25 Liberian Journalists across eight counties, aimed at straightening their capacity in highlighting Trafficking in Persons (TIPs) cases.

The refresher training was held in Ganta City, Nimba on March 27- 28, 2023, bringing together journalists from Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Montserrado, Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru and Sinoe Counties. The effort of building the Liberia media capacity on TIPs by CEMESP, kickoff in 2023, Where scores of reporters similarly gathered in Ganta, enhancing their knowledge on the importance of flagging Human Trafficking cases.

Giving an over view of the two days event was the administrative and financial officer of CEMESP, Mr. Dixon Williams who disclosed that the exercise is one of the many projects been implemented as part of their five year project plan title “The USAID Liberia Media Activities” which kickoff in 2022.
Outlining some benefits of the training, Mr. Williams disclosed that there are available grants intended to empower participating Journalists who are investigating cases particularly on TIPs.

For his part, the head of the Nimba County Journalist Association Mr. Kennedy Domah, urged participants of the training to Serve as direct messengers in exposing TIP issues, noting that the communities depend on them to report matters that undermines to society. He at the same time lauded CEMESP and its supporting partners for building the knowledge of Liberia Journalists in reporting Trafficking in Persons stories.
