Liberia, Eswatini Deepen Maritime Cooperation

The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has showcased Liberia’s maritime training capabilities to a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The excursion to the Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI) took place on the afternoon of October 14, 2026. The delegation was led by Mr. Darlington Michael Cheeks, Chief of Staff of LiMA, to give the visitors firsthand insight into the operations and programs of the institution.

LMTI Training Commandant Michael Morgan briefed the delegation on the Institute’s role in developing skilled maritime professionals for Liberia’s maritime industry. He disclosed plans to expand the facility from its current enrollment of 24 students to 48 students, in line with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s vision to increase opportunities for maritime education.

He also explained the merit-based recruitment process that draws qualified candidates from across the country, and highlighted the growing demand for LMTI graduates in the maritime sector.

The visit forms part of the Eswatini delegation’s working visit to Liberia to study Liberia’s maritime governance structures, as the Kingdom seeks to establish its own Maritime Authority and Ship Registry.
