Thirteen Liberian students sponsored by the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) have made the nation proud after bagging Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the prestigious Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, Ghana.
The colourful 20th Congregation held Saturday, June 27, 2026, saw the Liberian scholars climax two and four years of intense study in specialized maritime fields — a clear result of LiMA’s aggressive human capacity drive.
Speaking on the feat, LiMA Commissioner/CEO Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr. said the graduation is not just a ceremony — it’s strategy. As owner of the world’s largest ship registry, Liberia must produce its own captains, engineers, and shipping experts to maintain its global maritime dominance.
“This is a testament to our commitment to developing a competent maritime workforce for Liberia and the global industry,” Lighe said. “We are investing in people, not just ships.”
He charged the graduates to sail with integrity, professionalism, and pride, reminding them that they now carry Liberia’s flag on the world’s oceans.
Among the high-flyers are 8 Masters in Port & Shipping Administration: Geneve T. Bantu, Jeremy George, Booker Dabowoe Harvey Jr., Jenevee Jacobs, Aloysius W. Kpogbah, Willimina Zoe Varney, Esmond Ceidee Wulue, Dorgas Diggs, Boima Macdonald Freeman, George G. Kiadii, Siaffa Abu Konteh and Curtis Payne. Others are Spurgeon Clarence Capehart – MSc International Shipping & Logistics; Tokpah James, Jr. – BSc Marine Engineering (Honors); and Emric Howard – BSc Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Honors).
RMU Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr. disclosed that 368 students in total graduated across various disciplines — but Liberia’s 13 stood out as products of deliberate national investment.
More than a graduation, this is Liberia securing its future at sea.
