Monrovia – The Government has called on Liberians to celebrate its US$1 billion domestic revenue collection as a historic national achievement.
Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, made the call Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
Sando said Liberia crossing the one-billion-dollar mark in domestic revenue for the first time in its history is a breakthrough that should be embraced by all citizens.
He said the public should understand that higher revenue means a bigger national budget, which in turn allows government to invest more in critical sectors.
“More revenue means a bigger national budget. With a larger budget, government will be able to invest more in critical areas including health, education, road connectivity, and job creation,” Sando noted.
Reacting to public skepticism about whether the milestone will translate into improved living conditions, the Deputy Minister said Liberians should commend the government rather than question the impact.
“This is the first time for Liberia to reach one billion. And this is an achievement as a country. Stop asking how will the budget improve the lives of people. Commend the government for this milestone,” he said.
Sando further assured that the revenue will be used in ways that directly impact citizens, listing increments in civil servants’ salaries, absorption of more qualified Liberians onto the government payroll, and increased funding for education, health, and road development as key priorities.
