Monrovia, Liberia — Former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah Jr. has rejected a recent court decision in his case, declaring that “no judge, no justice and no President” can overturn his not-guilty verdict.
In a strongly worded statement posted on Facebook, Tweah described today’s ruling as a “kangaroo farce” and said Liberia’s justice and democracy had taken “a gigantic step backwards.”
He announced that he has instructed his legal team not to file anything before the Supreme Court, arguing that his legal battle ended with the jury’s acquittal.
“We have left the law and are now in the full realm of politics,” Tweah said. “I remain a free man.”
The former minister, who signed off as “that FEARLESS Grebo warrior,” said he and others are prepared to resist what he termed a slide into anarchy.
Tweah’s statement comes hours after Criminal Court ‘C’ convicted 15 jurors who had acquitted him in his corruption trial. The jurors were found guilty of allegedly collecting bribes to influence their decision.
