“You Talked Loosely”: Police IG Clashes With Kogar as Senate Explodes Over US$19M Drug Bust

MONROVIA, Liberia — The Liberian Senate chamber turned into a battlefield of words Tuesday as Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman was forced to apologize to Senator Samuel Kogar after a furious exchange over the stalled US$19.2 million RIA cocaine investigation.

The confrontation erupted minutes after Joint Security heads appeared before Plenary, summoned by the Senate over mounting concerns about transparency in the high-profile drug seizure at Roberts International Airport. Senator Kogar opened fire first, demanding President Joseph Boakai suspend Coleman, OIC Biago, and NSA officials immediately. “That is the only way this investigation will be taken seriously. The Inspector General is shielding people here,” Kogar charged.

Coleman did not hold back. The Police IG snapped at the senator, questioning his credibility on the Senate floor. “Do you have evidence, Mr. Senator? You just talked loosely here…” Coleman shot back. The remark drew gasps and immediate protest.

Kogar erupted, turning to his colleagues for backing. “You guys are hearing what the IG is telling me that I am talking loosely,” the senator shouted, as the chamber dissolved into tension. For five tense minutes, senators could not move the hearing forward.

Senate leadership finally intervened, ordering the Police Chief to retract. Under instruction from Plenary, Coleman stood down and apologized directly: “Honorable Kogar, I want to apologize to you.” The incident underscores how high the stakes have become as the Senate pushes for answers on one of Liberia’s largest reported drug busts, with a full open hearing now set for Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
