Athens, Greece — Liberia just made waves at the world’s biggest shipping fair. The Liberia Maritime Authority says its push at Posidonia 2026 has locked in commitments for more than 150 new vessels to join the Liberian Registry, cementing the country’s spot among the top ship registries globally.

Commissioner/CEO of LiMA, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., led high-level talks in Athens with shipowners, vessel managers, maritime investors, classification societies, and key industry players. Those meetings delivered more than handshakes. They delivered fleet growth and new jobs.

“Approximately 150 new vessels are expected to join the Liberian Registry,” LiMA announced Sunday, June 1, 2026. That expansion is a major win for Liberia’s flagship program and signals fresh trust in how the country runs its maritime administration.

The gains didn’t stop at tonnage. Shipowners and operators who met with the Liberian delegation also signaled stronger interest in hiring Liberian seafarers. For a country pushing job creation and skills development, that shift opens new doors for qualified Liberian maritime professionals to work aboard international vessels.

Speaking from Athens, Commissioner Lighe said the results reflect Liberia’s focus on quality and partnership.
“Our engagements at Posidonia 2026 have been highly productive and affirm Liberia’s reputation as a trusted and preferred maritime flag state. The interest shown by international shipowners in registering additional vessels under the Liberian flag and employing more Liberian seafarers reflects the confidence that the global maritime community continues to place in Liberia.”

Lighe added that the expected influx of 150+ vessels will boost Liberia’s ranking among top maritime nations and bring in more revenue to fund national development.

Posidonia 2026 is the shipping industry’s premier exhibition. For Liberia, the Athens showcase turned talks into tangible wins: more ships under the flag, more opportunities for Liberian sailors, and stronger credibility on the world stage.
