Duogee Town, Grand Gedeh County, was struck by tragedy on Christmas Day as 13-year-old Emmanuel Jonnay lost his life in an accidental shooting involving a single-barrel firearm.
According to reports, the incident occurred while Emmanuel was visiting a friend, Justin, with four other children, aged 10 to 13, present. The firearm, owned by Justin’s father, Zargba Totaye, was reportedly left accessible at the time of the incident.
A jury investigation confirmed that Emmanuel sustained a fatal gunshot wound under his right arm. A toy gun was also discovered near his body, though it remains unclear how it factored into the incident.
Zargba Totaye is currently in police custody and is being interrogated as authorities investigate how the weapon came into the children’s reach.
The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the Duogee Town community, where residents are calling for increased measures to ensure firearm safety, particularly in homes with children.
Emmanuel Jonnay was laid to rest shortly after the incident, leaving family and friends grieving his untimely death. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the shooting.
