CONAKRY, Guinea — A release from the website of the Guinea Presidency says the President of Guinea, Mamadi Doumbouya, on Thursday chaired an emergency session of the country’s Supreme Council of National Defense at the Mohammed V Palace, a high-level meeting that comes amid growing border tensions linked to land disputes between Guinea and its neighbors, including Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The extraordinary meeting, held March 12, 2026, focused on key strategic issues relating to national security and stability, as authorities seek to strengthen vigilance and coordination across Guinea’s defense and security institutions.
In addition to President Doumbouya, the session brought together several top government and security officials, including the President of the National Transitional Council, Dansa Kourouma; Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah; Secretary General of the Presidency Amara Camara; and Director Minister of the Presidential Cabinet Djiba Diakite. The meeting was also attended by senior members of the military and paramilitary leadership along with several cabinet ministers.
During the closed-door session, President Doumbouya issued firm directives to statutory members of the council, urging the full mobilization of the country’s defense and security forces to reinforce national preparedness.
According to officials, the move aims to ensure the safety of citizens, maintain stability, and safeguard both lives and property across Guinea.
The Guinean leader also reminded security officials of the gravity of their responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of discipline, coordination, and swift responsiveness among forces tasked with protecting the nation.
Authorities described the meeting as more than a routine institutional gathering. Instead, it was framed as a strong call for collective responsibility among Guinea’s defense and security institutions at a time when regional security concerns remain sensitive.
By convening the emergency council session, President Doumbouya signaled that protecting citizens and preserving national stability remain central priorities of his administration.
