The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has raised serious concerns over the recent appointment of a new Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), setting the stage for what it describes as a crucial national address next week.
In an official announcement, the opposition party disclosed plans to host a major press conference on April 13, 2026, at its temporary national headquarters in Plumkor, Sinkor. The event is expected to bring together top-tier figures within the party, including members of its National Executive Committee, legislative caucus, former lawmakers, and leaders of its women and youth wings.
Beyond its internal structures, the CDC is also calling on the media, civil society actors, religious leaders, and the broader public to attend what it terms a “significant national engagement.”
According to the party, the press conference will focus heavily on the NEC leadership appointment, alongside what it describes as growing threats to Liberia’s democratic stability. The CDC further signaled its intention to hold President Joseph Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Koung, and National Security Advisor Kofi Woods accountable for what it alleges are actions undermining the country’s governance and peace.
Positioning itself as a defender of democratic values, the CDC warned against any attempts to reverse the nation’s hard-won stability, stressing that it remains prepared to resist developments that could plunge the country back into past turmoil.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Liberia’s peace and democratic future, declaring its continued vigilance in the face of what it views as mounting national challenges.
