Bushrod Island, Monrovia— The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 70-year-old woman in connection with a major drug bust in the densely populated township of West Point.

‎According to the LDEA, its Special Drug Squad conducted a targeted operation after receiving a credible tip-off about illegal drug activity in the area. During the raid, officers seized a quantity of the synthetic drug “KUSH” valued at over one million Liberian dollars (L$1,000,000).

‎Investigators said the narcotics were discovered hidden inside nine small mineral water bottles—an apparent attempt to avoid detection. Authorities identified the suspect as Mrs. Lucy S. Morris, who was arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

‎The LDEA confirmed that Mrs. Morris remains under investigation and will be charged under the Amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023 before being forwarded to court.

‎In a statement, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the spread of illegal substances nationwide. “We are intensifying our operations across Liberia to identify and prosecute all those involved in the illicit drug trade,” the LDEA said.

‎The agency also urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious drug-related activities in their communities, noting that public cooperation is vital in combating the growing drug crisis.

‎The LDEA further revealed that traffickers are increasingly turning to unconventional transportation methods—including motorcycles and tricycles (commonly known as kekehs)—to move narcotics and evade security patrols.

‎However, the agency assured the public that it is updating its strategies to stay ahead of traffickers. “No matter the method, our officers are ready to counter and dismantle these illegal networks,” the statement concluded.
