Sinkor, Liberia – New eyewitness accounts are reshaping the narrative surrounding the June 28, 2025, shooting incident in Sinkor, suggesting that the man blamed by rumors was not the aggressor but a victim of a violent setup.
According to multiple witnesses, the incident began early that morning at an entertainment center adjacent to Bloom Bar, when a heated dispute broke out between the manager of the establishment and another man over an alleged debt. The man at the center of the controversy, who had gone there simply as a customer, tried to calm the situation but was suddenly caught in a storm.
“What people don’t know is the entertainment owner called in his so-called grownine boys from the back,” said Robberter Peter, who was at the scene. “Like they were sponsored by someone, they came rushing with knives and sticks. They even started hitting on the car of the young man who was only there to enjoy himself. From that point, he and his friends were trapped the gate was locked, and they were being provoked and attacked from all sides. It’s not the first time things like this happened in that area. If they are not careful, they will destroy their own business.”
Another eyewitness, who asked not to be named, revealed that the club owner himself gave instructions to lock the gates, effectively trapping the group inside. “When they made attempt to leave, they were trapped in there. They tried using the first gate, which was the entrance, but that was locked. Then the young man in his car passed around to use the other gate. That’s when they locked that one too. The club owner stated that they weren’t going to leave. That’s when about 15 of the guys came running from the back, started attacking them, and even dragged them out of the car,”* the eyewitness recounted.
In the middle of the chaos, one of the gang members confronted the young man with a firearm. A struggle followed, and during the tussle, the gun went off.
James Kollie, another eyewitness, explained: “The shot was never intentional. It was a fight over a weapon that was turned on him. In the confusion, the discharge struck one of the very attackers who had come too close, busy recording instead of backing off.”
Sarah Johnson, who says she saw part of the scuffle, added: “This whole thing was a trap. Those boys came from the back purposely to intimidate. If not for the gate being broken open, those guys would have been seriously harmed. They ran for their lives while being chased into the street.”
Family sources confirm that the injured man is now receiving treatment, but stress that he was part of the violent provocation that sparked the tragedy in the first place.
For the eyewitnesses, the events of that night are clear: the young man being rumored was no aggressor. He was targeted, ambushed, and pushed into a life-threatening situation that ended with an accidental shot.
