‎Boakai Dismantles LDEA Leadership, Appoints Interim Management Team

Monrovia, Liberia – August 28, 2025 President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has dismissed top officials of the Liberia Drug Enforcement agency for administrative reasons, effective immediately.

‎ The officials removed from their posts include Director General Mr. Anthony K. Souh, Deputy Director General for Administration Mr. Gwee K. Porkpah, and Deputy Director General for Operations Mr. Sebastian Farr.

‎ In response to this leadership change, President Boakai has established an Interim Management Team tasked with steering the agency’s operations until a new management team is appointed. The Interim Team consists of:

‎DCP Fitzgerald T. M. Biago from the Liberia National Police (LNP), serving as Officer-in-Charge (OIC)

‎Mr. Ernest T. Tarpeh, Assistant Director for Special Services at the National Security Agency (NSA), appointed as Deputy for Administration/Investigation.

‎ACP Patrick B. Kormazu of the Liberia National Police, designated as Deputy for Operations The Interim Management Team will be responsible for regular reporting to the Minister of Justice, who will keep President Boakai informed on the agency’s performance and operations.

‎ In a statement regarding the dismissals, President Boakai expressed confidence in the Interim Team, highlighting their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to tackling the pressing issue of drug-related crimes in Liberia. He stated, “This action is aimed at strengthening our collective resolve and actions in achieving a country free of illicit drugs and substances, a task that the Government is committed to sustaining so as to effect a reversal of the current unacceptable situation.

‎” The President underscored the urgency of the situation, urging the Interim Team to intensify efforts to prevent the influx of illicit drugs, combat drug trafficking, and dismantle existing drug networks across the nation.

‎He emphasized that drug and substance abuse poses significant threats to Liberia’s future, particularly for its youth, and contributes to crime, violence, and instability. Additionally, The Liberian Leader has directed the Minister of Justice to conduct a comprehensive review of the LDEA’s structure, functions, and operations, with a report and recommendations due within ninety days.

‎ This decisive action reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by illicit drugs in Liberia and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
