After depositing her lifeless body for One year and seven months at a funeral parlor for investigation of her murder, Charlotte Musu has finally been buried.
Monrovia, Liberia – The lifeless remains of Charlotte Musu, niece of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, who was murdered in February 2023, have been laid to rest. Charlotte received a dignified burial on September 28, 2024, at the Brewerville Cemetery in Montserrado Suburb.
It is important to recall that Charlotte was murdered in February 2023 at the home of former Chief Justice Scott, where she was reportedly stabbed multiple times by an unknown individual.
The trial surrounding Charlotte’s death has been a landmark case that captured the attention of the entire country. The investigation began after Scott reported an armed robbery coinciding with Charlotte’s death. Despite her claims, a police investigation led to the defendants being charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and making false statements.
On June 12, 2023, a Special Grand Jury indicted them for deliberately inflicting fatal injuries on Charlotte Musu with malice, using weapons such as a knife and pepper spray. The defendants pleaded not guilty, asserting they were falsely accused and that the state had not pursued the actual perpetrators.
During the trial, the defense argued that the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. However, the prosecution contended that the evidence clearly implicated Scott and the others in Charlotte Musu’s death.
After deliberation, the jury returned a majority verdict of guilty, with one juror dissenting. The jury concluded that all four defendants were guilty of murder, criminal conspiracy, and raising a false alarm to law enforcement, underscoring the serious nature of the charges against them.
However, on August 29, the Supreme Court overturned the ruling, acquitting the former Chief Justice and the others involved.
Weeks after their release, former Justice Scott received the her niece lifeless body for befitting burial. meanwhile, the murderer of the 29 year old Charlotte remain unknown, with citizens calling on national government to reopen investigation in the death.
