Monrovia, Liberia – In a formal letter addressed to House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) has urged for the public release of the investigation report on alleged budget tampering involving approximately US$20 million. STAND, a pro-democracy advocacy organization committed to good governance and anti-corruption, criticized the House of Representatives for keeping the findings of the investigation confidential.
Chairman Mulbah K Morlu, Jr., representing STAND, emphasized that the secrecy surrounding the report has fueled public suspicion of a possible cover-up or collusion. The organization expressed concern that high-ranking officials from both the executive and legislative branches might be involved in the scandal, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability.
STAND called for immediate action, including the suspension of implicated individuals from committee assignments and legal prosecution of those responsible for the alleged financial misconduct. The group also demanded the dismissal or prosecution of any members of the executive branch involved in the budget manipulation.
The letter highlights the critical need for the House to demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability to restore public trust. STAND urges the release of the full special committee’s report to provide clarity and reinforce efforts against corruption.
The House of Representatives has yet to respond to these demands, but the call for transparency and accountability underscores the growing public demand for effective governance and the rule of law in Liberia.
