A farmer in Borkeza Junction, Zorzor District, Lofa County has raised an alarm over a strange flock of unidentified birds destroying rice farms in the area. Joseph Kennedy, who made the call in a public notice on Facebook to the Ministry of Agriculture, said the birds have invaded farms in the district and crops are under serious threat, calling for urgent intervention.
Kennedy appealed directly to the Minister of Agriculture and the Zorzor District Agriculture Office to quickly deploy to the area to assess the situation and help farmers save their harvest. Rice farmers in Lofa, Liberia’s breadbasket, have in recent years repeatedly complained about birds and other pests affecting production.
