The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Justice, has formally charged former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor in connection with an ongoing drug investigation.
Speaking at a special press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Justice Minister Oswald Tweh announced that the former Vice President has been charged with drug trafficking, money laundering, and other related offenses.
Minister Tweh further stated that the government will ensure the former Vice President faces the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile, Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman confirmed that Taylor is currently in police custody at LNP Headquarters in Monrovia.
The charges stem from the July 2026 seizure of 3,971 kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated US$317 million in Liberia — the largest drug bust in Liberia’s history. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more suspects may be identified as the case progresses.
