Monrovia, Liberia — Liberia’s General Auditing Commission and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission have confirmed receipt of a formal communication alleging massive financial irregularities involving the transitional account of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority. The acknowledgment puts the complaint officially before the country’s two lead accountability institutions.
The complaint details alleged looting from the LTA transitional account during a recent administrative transition. It urges immediate administrative action, arguing that swift steps are needed to preserve evidence, protect public funds, and maintain public confidence in the telecoms regulator, a key revenue-generating state entity.
Citing precedent, the communication calls on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to suspend the current Board of Commissioners, just as he did with former LTA Chairman Abdullah Kamara, the Managing Director of the Liberia Airport Authority, and a Board member of NOCAL. “It’s about time the President move in to suspend the Board of Commissioners, in accordance with international best practices,” the document stated.
The authors warned against what they termed “selective justice,” stressing that the credibility of the administration’s anti-corruption agenda depends on consistent application of accountability measures across institutions. They argue that leaving the Board in place while allegations are probed could undermine both the investigation and public trust.
With both GAC and LACC now seized of the matter, attention shifts to the scope and timeline of any audit or investigation. The Executive Mansion has not commented on whether it will take further administrative action against the LTA Board. Efforts to reach LTA for response were unsuccessful by press time.
