Monrovia, March 26, 2026 — Three officials from Liberia’s Ministry of Finance and Development Planning have earned continental recognition for their contributions to discussions on modernizing public financial management systems across Africa.
P. Akoi Thompson, Sedekie Kamara, and Robert Gaye were acknowledged for their performance at a peer learning exchange organized by the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative. The forum, held from March 9–10 in Kigali, convened financial experts, policymakers, and reform advocates to examine how digital tools are reshaping government financial operations.
The Liberian delegation featured Thompson, Director of Payroll Coordination and Tracking; Kamara, Assistant Director in the Public Investment Unit; and Gaye, Assistant Director for Monitoring and Evaluation. Their participation underscored Liberia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen fiscal governance through the adoption of technology-driven systems.
Deliberations at the workshop focused on the growing reliance on digital platforms such as integrated financial management systems, e-procurement mechanisms, and electronic tax administration to enhance efficiency and accountability in public spending. Representatives from countries including Rwanda, Kenya, and Liberia shared practical experiences, highlighting progress in curbing financial leakages and improving procurement processes.
Participants also stressed that digital transformation in public finance extends beyond technological upgrades, describing it as a critical pathway to strengthening transparency, boosting public confidence, and advancing inclusive governance.
The exchange placed strong emphasis on peer learning, allowing delegates to compare national experiences and confront shared challenges, including system compatibility issues, cybersecurity threats, and gaps in technical expertise. Practical solutions were explored, with a focus on adapting reforms to local realities across the continent.
