*Liberia:The fight to tickle Illicit Drugs remains in limbo as key government officials reportedly caught in the web of drugs importation*

Monrovia, Liberia- Liberia is one of the least underdeveloped nation in west Africa with the total Population of 5.193 Million that stands to loose nearly a generation as a result of Government Weakness in combating drugs addiction and importation.

Liberia continue to loose the trust of becoming a drugs free country as the nation turns out to be a transit point for drug trafficking with government officials reportedly implicated.

The importation and consumption of illegal drugs including cocaine in the country has been on the increase despite calls from citizens to end the nightmare.

The country has rapidly improved in narcotic drugs transaction resulting to proliferation of disadvantage youths, Violence, ghettos and crimes rate across the nation’s capital.

The Government’s Role: The government through the ministry of Justice and the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency appears to lack the ability in saving the Liberian society against drugs, as fingers are always pointed at prominent officials of the Weah’s administration for been engineers in trafficking/smuggling process.

There have been numerous of cases surrounding drug seizers including the famous US$100 Million worth of Cocaine case in October 2022, which the government lost due to lack of sufficient evidence.

The recent methamphetamine scandal at Roberts International Airport linking Weah’s Chief of Protocol Nora Finda Bundoo, Samuel Freeman head of Security, Sam Saryon head of Cargo at RIA amongst others continues to raise doubt about the Weah’s commitment to fighting combating drugs.

President Weah’s Position on the Matter:

Responding to oppositions about the many allegations against his regime, the Liberian leader noted that the presence of illicit drugs in the country should not be shafted on his administration, attributing the Ellen Johnson led government for been involved in such devastation.

The growing wave of narcotic drugs consumption particularly amongst the Youthful population is on a massive increase since government’s decision to tickle importation of the substance continues to remain fruitless. Significant amount of the Liberian youth have turned out to be drugs addicts, leaving them with the option of becoming armed Rubbers sleeping in ghettos, cemeteries and street corners.

The Drugs law which was passed by both Houses and later signed by President Weah is at sleep while alleged individuals are making millions of dollars at the detriments of the Liberian youth.

The trigger down effects will be unimaginable if reactionary measures are not taken.
