Built in the 1960s, this iconic hotel was a testament to the country’s aspirations for progress and the pursuit of luxury. With its prime location atop Ducor Hill, the palace offered breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. The architecture was a blend of modernist design and African influences, creating a unique and impressive aesthetic.
The interior showed off spacious and grandly decorated rooms, adorned with chandeliers, marble floors, and intricate artwork. The Ducor Palace became a hub of social gatherings, hosting prestigious events and welcoming dignitaries from around the world. Its rooftop pool and bar were the epitome of sophistication, attracting locals and tourists alike. Sadly, the civil war that ravaged Liberia in the 1990s took its toll on the Ducor Palace.
The building fell into disrepair and became a haunting reminder of the country’s turbulent past. Despite its current state of forsaking, the Ducor Palace remains a poignant emblem of the beauty and resilience that once graced Monrovia.
