Monrovia – The South Africa Football Association has filed a written complaint to FIFA over Liberia intentions to play their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 group qualifiers matches in Morocco.
This followed a FIFA ban placed on the SKD in May, 2020.
In their letter to CAF, Mr. Motlanthe, Secretary General of SAFA stressed his country’s objection to whatever arrangements to permit Liberia’s use of Morocco for home games; stating that it goes against the principles of fair play
“We have been informed that Liberia intends to play their group qualifiers matches in Morocco, whilst they are with Morocco in the same group”, Motlanthe said.
“The South African Football Association, hereby raise and officially objects to that arrangement as it goes against the principles of fair play”, he continued.
Liberia has been drawn in group K with Morocco, South Africa and Zimbabwe in what appears to be the group of death.
Citizens believe it is a shame that this is happening to football in Liberia when George Weah sits as President, a man who owes everything he is today to football.
