The Executive Protection Service (EPS) regrets the sudden death of one of its agent, Melvin Earley, bringing to two the number of Security Officers shooting themselves dead in 12 weeks.
According to preliminary reports the long serving EPS agent shot himself on Friday at about 06:03 am on Friday, February 19, 2021 in Tappita, Nimba County. He was on duty during time of the incident.
The EPS has launched a full scale investigation to establish any potential reason of the suicide. The preliminary reports did not indicate whether the Agent Earley accidentally or intentionally shot himself.
The Agent has been with EPS since the restructuring of the service after the Liberian Civil war.
Meanwhile, the hierarchy of the EPS extends heartfelt condolences to his family.
The recent wave of security officers accidentally shooting themselves to death is alarming. It can be recalled that in November 2020 Deputy Commissioner of Police, Alexander Saye allegedly shot himself to death in Grand Gedeh county.
